Inspired by Indian President Professor APJ Abdul Kalam and Thomas L. Friedman's "The World Is Flat," we sought to create a cutting-edge center for technology education. Because we felt the lessons learned from Friedman's book were so valuable, we distributed copies to the Principal of each technical college in India's Murshidabad district.
There is a strong sentiment in the corporate world that Indian students do not gain enough practical knowledge during their academic studies. This results in high training costs for incoming engineers, and an inefficient delay between the time a young graduate is hired and the time he becomes a productive employee. Corporate training centers exist in the major technology hubs: Bangalore and Mumbai immediately spring to mind. However, corporate training at the District level, in cities such as Berhampore, Malda, and Belgaum, was sorely lacking.
So we took it upon ourselves to make a difference, to take the corporate training style and apply it in a number of cutting-edge educational centers at the district level. With only the requirement that a district had two graduate colleges of engineering, we set out on our mission, establishing our first training center at Berhampore, in West Bengal's Murshidabad District.
At our centers, we emphasize the importance of vendor certifications such as those from Microsoft, Cisco, and SUN Microsystems. These credentials give students international exposure and opens the door to a wide array of professional possibilities.
We believe that, for the students to reach their full potential, it is important to provide them with the latest in tools and information. To further this cause, we provide subscriptions to MS Technet, the MSDN library, and Windows IT Pro. Also realizing the growing importance of business savvy and macro perspectives in technical professionals, we provide Harvard Business Review. For those interested in project management, we provide PMI Magazine.
This is a new undertaking, one full of promise and possibility, as well as a wealth of lessons. To this end, we've established a forum for the students in Murshidabad to express their unique perspectives and receive the assistance they need to become effective, global-minded professionals. We offer wide-ranging assistance, covering such discrepant areas as SAT preparation, interview preparation, all the way through full programs of study in software engineering, systems management, and software administration.
